ACC Subsidy Helping To Buy CPDs
Helping reduce injuries and fatalities on quad bikes.
ACC is working with WorkSafe to launch a crush protection device subsidy to help reduce serious injuries and fatalities on quad bikes.
Every year quad bikes are a major cause of death and serious injury in rural workplaces with many incidents associated with accidental rollovers.
On average each year five people die, and we receive over 1,000 claims for work-related quad bikes accidents, costing $12 million.
Last week a new policy clarification from WorkSafe was issued strongly recommending that a crush protection device (CPD) is installed on all quad bikes used for work. We’ve collaborated with WorkSafe to design the CPD subsidy to help rural business buy CPDs for their quad bikes.
CPD subsidy available from today
To help our rural business customers maximise the Mystery Creek Fieldays’ specials, we’re making our subsidy available earlier than expected.
Any purchase of the two WorkSafe recommended CPDs from today (12 June) will be eligible for our subsidy. The subsidy will not be fully operational until the end of July, so those who purchase the CPD now may need to wait until this time for reimbursement.
The subsidy is for self-employed and small to medium businesses in targeted sub-sectors at the highest injury rate, which includes beef, sheep and dairy farming.
The subsidy offer is $180 per CPD with a maximum of two CPD purchases per business (including self-employed). This is approximately 15-30% cost discount, depending on what product is chosen. The subsidy will be available for 12 months, but we will review uptake after 6 months.
Based on 2018 data, there are an estimated 38,000 businesses (including self-employed) in these targeted sub-sectors. It is estimated this group accounts for 70% of the quad bike related claim costs.
